Thousands of people watched as Prince William and Kate Middleton exchanged vows in 2011, and even more tuned in to watch Prince Harry marry Meghan Markle in 2018.

Both of these weddings captured the world’s attention by the sheer grace of the brides, the romance between the couple, and the fairytale beauty of the whole event. Lots of brides dream of having a royal wedding like the ones in Buckingham Palace, it is hard to achieve the aesthetic of a British royal wedding when you don’t have the same budget that the royal family does.

Discuss with your wedding planner how you can use royal style on your special day. Although royal weddings look like they are extremely expensive and not attainable by the average bride, you would be surprised at what some event planners are capable of.

If you express to your wedding planner that you would like to incorporate royal wedding theme decor and that you want this to feel like a royal event, your planner should be able to help you make your dreams a reality.

You can try to emulate the same magical elegance of Meghan Markle’s fairytale wedding on your own by following some of these decor and beauty ideas. Make sure every detail of your wedding is fit for a queen by using these gorgeous ideas.

Royal-Themed Stationery Ideas

For most royal weddings, the invitations are very simple and elegant. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding stationery was a crisp white linen invitation with black print lettering. It did not have gold embellishments or gemstones, like what you would expect from an extravagant royal wedding.

If you would like to have a royal wedding that is classy and sophisticated like the royal family, it is better to err on the simple side.

Venue Ideas and Inspiration

Windsor castle

One great idea for when you are looking for wedding venues is to look for a space for your ceremony and reception that has a royal feel to it. It doesn’t have to be Windsor Castle, but it could be anything from a historic estate to a gorgeous garden escape.

Make sure that your wedding ceremony venue is romantic and intimate. Most royal brides have their ceremony in a church-like setting, and the reception in a large, extravagant venue space.

When looking for an indoor venue for your wedding reception, look for high ceilings or accents like chandeliers that will pull your theme together. Important things to look out for when trying to book the perfect venue space is the lighting, if the space is large enough for your guest list, and the potential of the venue after adding decor.

Remember that whatever your budget is, it’s important to realize that any venue space can be completely transformed with the right decorations. From rich gold accents to elaborate floral arrangements, any venue location can be altered to look like it is fit for a princess!

If you have it in your budget, there are castle wedding venues to consider across the world, including the US.

Reception Inspiration for Food and Decor

When it comes to your reception tablescapes and the food and drinks you will serve, there are endless options to choose from. This is where you don’t really have to follow an exact theme, and you can choose whatever you personally like.

If you like the color blue, you can decorate your tables with blue table linens and powerful gold chargers and utensils. Depending on your royal wedding color scheme, swap out specific colors for whatever you like. As long as you keep it simple and elegant, many different decor options will work for your reception.

One major component of your food and drink that you can go all out on with a royal theme is the wedding cake. Your wedding cake can take whatever theme you chose and take it to the next level. Ask whichever bakery you are ordering your cake from to use your royal theme and decorate your cake accordingly for a statement piece at your reception.

If you really want to tie in the “royal” aspect of your wedding, you can decorate with scattered crown designs on specific parts of your table decor. One great idea is to use crown designs on your table numbers to let your guests know where they will be sitting. Another idea is to put a fabulous crown decoration on the back of the bride and groom’s chairs at the reception.

Royal Bridal Gowns and Beauty Inspiration

royal wedding gown

When looking for the perfect bridal look for a royal wedding affair, look for inspiration from famous royal brides. Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton, and Princess Diana are all great examples of what a royal bride looks like.

The single most important detail of your wedding day look is the wedding gown. One common detail among every royal bride is that their dresses feature sleeves. Another detail that can make your wedding dress appear royal is to look for princess gowns. These are gowns that have a large, puffy skirt that looks like it’s perfect for a Disney princess.

The next detail that you must prepare for your wedding day is your hairstyle. Royal brides love to wear their hair in up-dos, so if you have long hair that is easily arranged into an elegant bun or up-do, this is a great idea. Although lots of royal brides wear their hair up, that doesn’t mean that’s what you have to do.

Accessories like a crown look great with long hair styles. If you love your natural long locks, wear your hair with a crown to tie in that royal theme of your wedding.

As for bridal makeup, your makeup can look however you want. Most royal brides wear a very natural look on their wedding day that extenuate their natural beauty. Use your own beauty as inspiration and go for a more natural look if you are trying to appear royal on your wedding day. Say no to the false lashes, heavy contour or airbrush foundation.

Wedding Party Outfits & Beauty Inspiration

The members of your wedding party need to look prepared for a royal wedding from their hair to shoes. The bridesmaids and groomsmen will be standing next to you at the wedding ceremony, so make sure everyone is presentable.

For the bridesmaids, depending on the color scheme that you choose, their gowns should be a simple shade to tie all of the members of the bride’s wedding party together. At most royal weddings, the bridesmaids and groomsmen are children.

This is not as common for American brides, so do not feel as though you must follow this rule. Your bridesmaids makeup should be simple and elegant like the brides, and the hairstyles should not outshine the bride.

As for groomsmen, make sure the suits are very elegant. If you want all of your groomsmen in proper royal attire, make sure they are all wearing black tuxes with a waistcoat. If you don’t want the groomsmen to look too formal, a classic suit will also look great.

Guest Attire Rules

Make sure your wedding guests don’t look like common folk at your wedding. Most guests at royal weddings are very distinguished, and your guests should be the same!

Make sure you specify on the invitations what the dress code is for your wedding. If it is a nighttime, indoor event, then black tie is what you should strive for.

If you are having a wedding outdoors in the summer heat, you need to be more accepting of more casual dress attire. Guests will be uncomfortable in elegant ball gowns, heels, and suits if you make them sweat outside for too long.

Make sure that your dress code is realistic to your venue, and offer a “black tie optional” disclaimer on the invitation if you want your guests to dress up but not too much.
