What is a Bachelor Party?

The bachelor party is a celebration for the groom before his wedding day, celebrating his final night out as an eligible bachelor. Typically, bachelor parties are just for the guys, as the groomsmen and other close friends of the groom come together for a boys night out.

If you’re totally lost on where to begin with a bachelor party, keep the basics in mind. The bachelor party is meant to be a celebration of the groom’s last night as a single man before getting married.

The bachelor party is also an incredibly old tradition– the ancient Spartans used to have them as far back as the 5th century B.C.!

The responsibility of planning the big day usually falls on the shoulders of the best man and other groomsmen. If you’re still unsure where to begin, you can read more about how to plan a bachelor party here.

Classic Bachelor Party Ideas

There is definitely a typical aesthetic or idea that people usually associate with the bachelor party. It’s a night generally defined by copious amounts of alcohol and general craziness, from tons of dancing to the classic trope of the bachelor party stripper.

That’s not to say that you can’t do these things if they seem like what your groom and other groomsmen will enjoy– there’s nothing wrong with going a little crazy for such an exciting and important party. These bachelor party ideas are considered classics for a reason– because they’re scandalously unforgettable.

Party Time

Obviously, one of your first instincts when you know you’ve been assigned to host a bachelor party is to throw a huge bash. Of course, this is a totally fun and awesome way to go about it!

One way to start with throwing a party is to have it at your house or the house of one of the other groomsmen. This is a ton of fun, and just like high school!

You could also spend a night somewhere nearby and throw a party there, like an AirBnb. However, if you opt toward something like that, then you definitely need to be mindful of all the cleaning you’ll have to do the next day!

More and more, grooms choose to do bachelor weekends where they spend a few days in a new town or city. It’s always a fun option to visit somewhere new!

No matter where you decide to throw it, the groom will surely be appreciative of all the thought you put into their hardcore bach party.

Club Night

Another place to party is obviously at the club. Going clubbing is one of the easiest bachelor party ideas– the only expenses are really transportation, entrance fees, and drinks, as opposed to everything you’d need to purchase for a house party. Plus, it’s already free entertainment, and there are tons of other people there you can talk to!

Instead of going hard at one club, you could also plan a bar hop. Bar hopping is when you land in one city’s downtown district and jump around to all the bars in the area, taking in each spot’s atmosphere and getting a drink. This is a fun way to keep the bachelor party interesting and to get to know your city of choice.

Splurge on Dinner

If you guys want to live it up without tomorrow’s hangover, you can splurge on a large dinner at a nice restaurant for all of the groomsmen. This is a fantastic way to make everyone feel appreciated for what they’re contributing to the wedding while still enjoying yourselves.

This is obviously a pretty pricey option, especially when you consider what restaurant you choose to go to. It’s also important to make a reservation for a large party beforehand, so keep in mind that going out to dinner might have more planning ahead than you expect.

Mid-Day Bachelor Party Ideas

While the bachelor party is typically associated with debauchery and general things that the bride might not like, it doesn’t have to be this way. There are plenty of ways to celebrate your bachelor party in a PG way that won’t upset the soon-to-be-bride too much.

One of the best ways to have a nice bachelor party is to do something that can be enjoyed mid-day. An afternoon bachelor party is especially good if this is the day before the wedding– that way, the groom and groomsmen won’t be hungover or exhausted on the big day!

Lunch Party

Similarly to going out for a nice dinner, you can dig into a large lunch as a group. Going out or cooking a big lunch for everyone to enjoy will be a great way to bond and enjoy yourselves in a relaxed and less intense way than a late-night dinner.

If you’re celebrating on a weekend, you could even go out for a big brunch! Brunch is really having a resurgence in popularity right now– people love them some brunch! When you go out for brunch, you can get everything from your morning pancakes to fancy sandwiches, so everyone will be able to find something they enjoy.

Sports Lovers

If your groom is incredibly loyal to a specific sports team, you guys can go see them play for the bachelor party! Going to a live sports game is such a memorable experience and will mean a lot to your groom if he’s able to go see his favorite team play.

You could also go out and play your own sports! Heading to a local field or park to get going on some awesome exercise is a great way for all the groomsmen to bond and to get the heart pumping before the big day.

Take a Sip

You could also hit up a local brewery! Craft breweries where you can hang out, get some good food, and sample tasty beers are popping up everywhere, and they’re a ton of fun for the whole group to enjoy. It’s also great if your groom loves craft beer or fancy drinks!

Similarly, if you guys are feeling a little fancy, you could try to go to a winery! Wineries tend to be outdoors so you could get some Vitamin D, and they’re also a lot of fun, often offering hors d’oeuvres and wine samples.

Adrenaline Junkies

If you guys are looking to get the blood pumping for real, you could try something that will surely get the adrenaline going! One example of this would be to go skydiving as a group. Skydiving is a ton of fun, is shockingly safe, and will get your groom ready to take the jump of getting married.

You could also go go-karting! Go-karting is a wonderfully fun and childish activity that will have everyone missing boyhood. You can race each other, drive super fast, and laugh and tease each other. This is definitely one of the most fun and memorable bachelor party experiences.

Outdoorsy Bachelors

Some guys just love to be outside. If your groom is one of those types, then having an outdoorsy bachelor party is the best way to go! Thankfully, the great outdoors offers endless opportunities for adventure and bonding experiences.

However, you definitely have to get all of the groomsmen on board for doing something like this. Things like intense hikes and overnight camping require a lot of skill and gear that you need to ensure they’re open to before expecting.

Take a Hike!

Hiking is a ton of fun! If you’re not an avid hiker, hiking is usually taking a trail up a mountain or in a protected natural area.

Hiking trails range from being flat and easy to stroll to being incredibly physically taxing and difficult. In that case, it’s important to check that you’re picking a trail that can be done in the time period you need and for all the groomsmen attending.

However, if you find that perfect spot, a day-long hike can be an incredibly meaningful way to connect with nature and with each other. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to disconnect from the tech sphere and enjoy the great outdoors.

Camping Crew

If a day-long hike doesn’t sound long enough, you guys can all go camping! Camping is a ton of fun with a big group of friends. You can camp either at a campsite or somewhere else in the forest, though camping outside of a designated or populated area requires some experience.

The one thing about camping is that it requires a lot of gear, so you definitely have to invest in things like large tents, sleeping bags, and coolers. However, if several groomsmen like to camp, you can probably accumulate all the necessary stuff for the big party.

Beach Day

If it’s the summertime, you can also go to the beach as a group! Going to the beach is one of the most fun and relaxing activities that anyone can do when it’s warm. Beaches are both a party destination and a chill-out zone, so you can surely enjoy whatever sort of bachelor party vibe you want!

The good thing about a beach day is that beach access is usually free (except maybe for parking), and all you really need is swimsuits, towels, chairs, and sunscreen. These are all everyday items so this is definitely an affordable and fun option for a great bachelor party.

Get Creative

If you want to do something super personal and interesting, there are plenty of options for super creative bachelor parties that nobody else has done. This is great if you have a super picky groom or if they really want a heartfelt experience.

Obviously, DIYing an entire bachelor party is a lot more work than your standard planning for any of the ideas above. If this is the route you want to take as a best man or groomsman, then keep in mind that this requires quite a bit more creative planning.

Artisan Attempts

Creating something as a group is a really fun experience. For example, you could do something like a metalworking or pottery class as a group. This is a great way to help your boys get in touch with their artistic sides and to create something beautiful as a group.

You could also do group cooking or mixology classes, and then try each other’s work and give each other ratings! This is a super fun way to get to know each other and to practice your future cooking skills as a spouse.

Scavenger Hunt

One crazy idea is to set up a scavenger hunt for the groom! A scavenger hunt is when someone has to travel around a certain area and find and fulfill clues that will eventually lead them to a destination or to a gift.

For a bachelor party, you could do a boozy scavenger hunt or keep it G rated– it’s all about inventing your own ideas and coming up with your own plans! The end goal might be a club where all the groomsmen are dating, or to a golf course so you can spend some time together as a group!

DIY Backyard Bash

Like throwing a house party, throwing a backyard party or a “darty” is a great way to have a lot of fun together. However, backyard parties need some serious planning, from ordering or making food to setting up some sick outdoor party games like bocce or badminton.

A lot of grooms may really enjoy barbequing together or setting off fireworks. You can also set up a film screen and projector in the backyard to watch a movie together, whether it’s the groom’s raunchy favorite or home videos of the college days.
